There's something I've been thinking about concerning Chloe's anger at Clark. Is she justified in her anger? Especially considering that she was the one who let him off the hook. Well, I think the writers are a tiny bit off about how her anger should be expressed. Here's why.

In Tempest she had already told Clark how much the dance meant to her and her fear of a worst case scenario. While they did have a fun time for the portion of the dance they got to experience, he still ran out early.

Cut to Vortex. Chloe was understanding about the rescuing Lana thing. BUT...Clark picked the wrong moment to want to discuss it. They're searching for his father, who could possibly be dead. And he chooses then to discuss how he ran out on her? Bad idea.

Now, Chloe may have already decided to go the friends route. Her choice. She has to live with the consequences. (Although there is a certain amount of the cliche - but true - female pulling a 'read my mind' stunt.) But Clark made a mistake in asking how he could make it up to her. Here she may be moving to Metropolis permanently, she just had possibly her last big Smallville event ruined, and now she has to deal with a best friend who's being wishy-washy in his feelings for her. He shouldn't even have asked what he could do. (Of course he shouldn't even have been discussing then as I said before.) As soon as his dad was found, he should have planned some scaled down version of the dance in his barn, some candles and music, and invited Chloe over without telling her what was going on. Then when she walks in, he apologizes, turns on the song they got interrupted on and voila! Appropriate apology.

But Clark agreed to the friends thing. Okay. They both have to live with it. But flash forward to Heat, the first day of school (or so we're led to believe) and Clark, who had sworn he was going to *visit* Chloe over the summer, hasn't even written her an email. And we're given the impression that it wasn't even until the last minute that her dad decided for them to return to Smallville. Hey, now I'm getting mad at the big doofus!

My opinion is that what Chloe should be mad at him about is his failure as a friend. Pete never told Clark in Crush exactly how long Chloe had had a crush on him, so Clark can't be faulted for maybe thinking it was a fleeting thing. But he can be faulted for basically dropping the person he called a "constant" (in Drone).
