Rewatched a portion of Heat last night, and something hit me. Something Lex said that came out one way, but struck me in a manner quite different from the probably intentions of the writers.
Lex looked at Clark and told him he could "play it safe" or take a risk.
But isn't Lana safe? She's the one he's always pined for, even when he didn't even know her. She's like him. She's pretty. She's unattainable in many ways. She's his safe bet on never getting what he wants. And never having to be hurt or hurting someone else.
Now Chloe's the risk. She's firey. She won't back down. With her there's a lot more emotionally vested. He could have her. Which makes hurting her that much more of a possibility.
So maybe Clark is playing it safe. And taking the risk would actually be Chloe. Not Lana.
