Okay folks. I need all Firefly fans to help me out. This is a call to arms, a move of mass action, all in an attempt to thwart a preconceived opinion.

A coworker that I've been talking up Serenity to (and Firefly in general, but he's being a pain...he won't watch the series) finally saw the preview on a big screen.

His words? "You are obviously deluded by your love for that series, because that movie is going to suck."

This means I have to sit him down and give him backstory. I have to make him either watch the series or get him so completely educated by the series that he gives the movie a shot...or convince him to not see it.

And then it hit me: I won't be the only one facing this. I won't be the only one facing off with someone intent on seeing hte movie without knowing what came before. So...a plan needs to be formed for combating skepticism, derision, contempt or any emotion based purely on a preconceived notion of what they're expecting to get. (Never mind that I told this coworker and another that I wanted them to try the series but that it wasn't for everyone. "Watch an episode or two. If you don't like it, don't watch anymore." But no...I get it for those that tried it and didn't like the show. But not those that suddenly go from "Could be interesting" to "Looks hideous".)

So what should the plan of attack be? Start with the words "There was this girl...a girl in a box"? I'm going to have to sit him down before the end of September and educate. Let's think folks of the proper education process for the idiots among us who insist on all sci-fi being Independence Day and nothing else. (By the way, I love Independence Day, but it's very straight, normal sci-fi, in the vein of the original War of the Worlds, as opposed to the variations on the aliens and men clash theme that has since come on the scene.)

Saw Serenity last night.

Sekrit message to [livejournal.com profile] dragonsinger: Yep. Still pretty. The longer hair is interesting too.

And now...

What? You thought I was going to discuss spoilery stuff? *snort* I am an evil person who fully intends to keep all details firmly to myself until Sept. 30. Even with cut tags, I just feel like...nondiscussion except in others' journals. I know it sounds bizarre, but I'm holding back for a reason. I think it's partially because I want to squee with everyone at the same time, so it's best to hold back the squee now, and because I don't want to talk it out until I've seen it again to make sure I catch everything.

On other Serenity notes, there is something wrong about me being the least geeky person in the theater.

Also, we got an executive producer. Who all did the rest of you get?

Don't try reading the Browncoats boards and getting stressed before going to a movie.

Dear. Lord.

Seriously, all the talk of the fact that the movie theater that Serenity will be in being rented, so people can go in and sit early? And that people at 9 or 9:30 can't find seats together? Yeah. It's me and [livejournal.com profile] eliz. I will make people move if they try the crap of having one seat here and one seat there on a row. *grumble* Hopefully, the fact that this is a fannish lot means they'll be nice about it all and recognize that everyone is here to see something they love.

I hate being grumpy and worried on what should be a fun day.

Just in case anyone on my f-list knows someone who'll be in the area...

I have an extra ticket for Serenity tonight in Charlotte, NC. [livejournal.com profile] bubblesbrnaid is of course in the hospital, and [livejournal.com profile] dragonsinger has early, early plans with her dad tomorrow.

So if anyone knows anyone wanting to go to that location, have them get in contact with me. I've posted on the Browncoats board as well, but so far, no takers. (Considering the demand for this movie, if someone wants a ticket, I don't want to waste one.)

Otherwise I have a feeling we'll be looking for folks outside the theater. LOL

ETA: It has been claimed! Yay! A guy was going to end up standing outside the theater looking, and his friend just happened to see it up on the Browncoats site. Even funnier, the friend is going and is in Greensboro, and they have a friend in marketing who's going. The friend in marketing will be wearing a fannish shirt. Oddly enough I, who work in advertising, will be wearing a fannish shirt.

Every attempt was made last night to go see [livejournal.com profile] bubblesbrnaid. Alas, I was stupid and didn't think to ask what time visiting hours started at the hospital for ICU (ending I managed to ask, starting, no). I got there way too early and was still not the first ones there. Many family members had beaten me to the punch. So I sent in my light reading I'd gathered for her (NASCAR Online articles, the AFI top 100 lines) with a cousin. Will try again Friday night (when hopefully family will have cleared out some).

Serenity tonight! Yay!

(Gotta remember to post the extra ticket on the Browncoats board. With all the folks wanting in, it shouldn't go to waste.)

Watched Ocean's Eleven last night for the first time. An amusing romp. Enjoyable. Ocean's Twelve will be sometime over the weekend.

The Random and the Weird

1. Get your David Hasselhoff paper airplane here! Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] stone_princess, because OMG yes! The randomness of a Hasselhoff paper airplane is just too fun. Print one of your own! You know you want to!

2. The head of Grand Prix tells Danica Patrick that women should be like domestic appliances. I'll be over here scratching my head, because what? the fuck? Domestic appliances? I offer up the following as my response to that lunacy: "Yeah, well men are like tools. Totally useless without someone with higher brain function to control them." Dear god. I'm not a militant feminist, but damn if that isn't the freaking weirdest piece of crap ever. Sweeping generalizations to demean my sex? Well then, I'll come back with sweeping generalizations that make you look like a dumbass and prove how stupid sweeping generalizations are altogether.

3. Shane Hmiel suspended through 2007. Whee!

4. Fandom...what? Fandom Love? What the hell happened to Fandom Wank? Please tell me that's the funniest joke ever. It hurts when I get in on the joke after it's already started.

5. Celebrity Idol: When Stars Make Our Ears Bleed Can I hold out hope that David Hasselhoff will try out? Or Bill Clinton? Or...hell, if Anna Nicole Smith wants to try out, I'm for it.

6. Smallville: Things We'd Like To See In Season Five [livejournal.com profile] babaojay poses some interesting thoughts about the coming season and prods us to think: what do we want next year? Go. Discuss.

Last rant, promise.

Fandango is acting up. Really, this is annoying. Especially considering, by what I can tell of the showings going through Fandango, only one other city hasn't been released yet. Las Vegas and Charlotte, and that's it. Gak!

*stares at screen*

All I have to say is, if anyone walks up and asks me to do anything at the precise moment these things go on sale? I may kill them. Or the computer.

ETA: *clicks* Hey, if anyone is bored and within local phone distance of Charlotte (and you've been keeping it from me for *ages*, but that's a whole other thing), and feel the urge to call the theater to see what's up with the tickets for Serenity, the number is 704-540-7558. Me, I'm at work and answering phones, so I can't call again (plus I'm scared I'll get the mean lady again).

Yeah, I'm that desperate. And bored.

ETA2: The sitch.

Pardon my massive laughter, but I finally got tired of it and called the Charlotte theater.

I barely got out words about a movie and tickets and..."The Serenity Pre-Screening?"

Hee!

We're apparently waiting on Fandango.

SHIT!!!!!

GOT EM!!!!!

*dances and squees*

For [livejournal.com profile] eliz and [livejournal.com profile] bubblesbrnaid:

The current Serenity sitch is that we have to wait for the stupid website to release the tickets. *sigh* So annoying! About half of them haven't released at all yet. Until 5 today I can keep monitoring. If, during that time they go on sale, I'll snap up three. After that I'll be absent from a computer until tomorrow. But I'll be monitoring!

[livejournal.com profile] bubblesbrnaid, talk me out of this. Because I won't go without you. Really.

*cough*

Serenity, June 23rd, Charlotte

It's at 10 pm. In Charlotte. On a Thursday night. In JUNE!!!!!

ETA: Of course the odds are *not* in my favor. Me going to see how much the tickets would be...and they're not available. "There are no showtimes listed for this date." Fuckers. Supreme idiots. *sigh* But if tickets *do* become available...*does mojo hands* Bubbles, you will come with me. Yeeeees. You will! *mojo hands some more*

(Can you tell I feel better today?)

ETA2: Gak! $8.50 a person. You know, it's just so damn *painful* how expensive movies can be. This is why I rent. Oh well, it's Serenity and worth it.
