Does Semagic have the capability of backing up my LJ?

Dear LJ,

Never leave me in the middle of the day again!

You know the CURRENT current LJ madness? The one that has so many folks up in arms?

Um, they're not wrong guys. They just seriously, seriously suck at how they convey stuff. Clarifying what all is considered illegal? Not wrong. The kiddie porn stuff? Not wrong. The fact that everyone seems to be taking it as an attack against Harry Potter fandom because they failed to mention actual times they've had to crack down on fanfic? Wrong. (Yes, they clarified again on that one, because it was the one most folks asked about and they should have known that it would be the main sticking point.)

Jeez people. Wake up and smell the logic. I love you all (and defriend me at will if this offends you, because frankly, I love everyone on my f-list, but sometimes the crazy when it comes to the law gets on my nerves), but for grief's sake. They're saying if it's punishable by law then they may have to crack down. And that there are very, very, very few instances of fanfic that have ever fallen under that heading. So you know what? They're not coming after each and every one of you! They're targeting kiddie porn! Believe me, look for some straight up smut some time. As much as fandom wants to joke that they're writing straight up smut? It doesn't compare to the actual straight up smut.

So do what you will, but come on, get a grip. Because if they were really, really going to go after users for illegalities? The fanfic as a whole would be the part they'd go after.

Aw hell, I'm just going to go ahead and call it Defriending Amnesty Day. Because I rarely get bitchy and disagree so boldly with a majority of my friend's list. And it'll be sad if anyone feels that I'm personally attacking them. But fact is, I've held my tongue through how many rounds of LJ sucking at the PR? While I enjoy interaction with all you cool folk, the law is something I hold dear, and freedom of speech is not being impugned. (Their freedom of speech to actually state *everything* they want us to know has been impugned, though. Since apparently the LJ brass can't actually state everything at once, in a concise manner. Can they not just hire some legal person to write everything for them and get it all done?)

Comments are off because everyone has their opinion on it all and many have already stated that opinion. And frankly, I don't feel like hearing umpteen ways in which I suck for not standing up to the man or for believing their crap and putting the LJ status quo before friendships. The is my LJ. It's not about having everyone agree with me. And on this subject, I don't think folks can be rational enough to hold civil discussions.

Question

Why are there all these headlines on reputable news sites that read "ACTRESS B: I've seen Suri Cruise"? Because frankly, all that makes me think is that Suri is the new Roswell Grey. She's an alien! Should we test the celebs for sobriety first? Make sure they weren't drunk and wandering in the desert when they saw Suri?

Retroactive locking of posts is going swimmingly. It's interesting to go back through, locking things and tagging entries, and seeing information or posts that you'd forgotten about.

1. I need new glasses. I got these in January of 2003. Whoops! No wonder they're so warped.

2. Locking posts is hard. 2002 is locked. January of 2003 is locked. A month of this year...locked. This is going to take forever, isn't it?

Hee. I'm actually excited for once. With a crappy day filled with cramming for a test and trying to actually work at the same time, I made time to get my LiveJournal up and going.

Again, Hee.
