We Are The World

So, for the record, I still have my 45 of "We Are The World", the original. I had it matted and framed years ago. That was the first bit of music that I bought. So I'm a little rabid about this song.

Just watched the video for the new version. For the most part it was great. I have a few nitpicks, a few notes.

1. Favorite solo of the bunch was Pink's. Because her voice naturally has a gravelly quality that speaks to pain, which says a lot for this song. (Reminds me a bit of Springsteen's solo in the original in terms of pain in the voice.) Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson just behind Pink on awesomeness of solo.

2. Why does Justin Bwhatever have a solo??????? Let alone the FIRST ONE?

3. Maybe it's just me, because I can't remember who all took part in the first one, but did Streisand get the exact same solo as she did the first time?

4. I understand why Wyclef Jean got such a significant role. And to a degree, I think his style is needed to give the song the Haitian edge to make it unique for this cause. At the same time, there were moments where I felt like he needed to tone down whatever he was doing, because he was screaming more than adding to the tone.

5. Celine Dion versus Fergie...um, whatever your thoughts on Celine, she schooled Fergie there.

6. Jennifer Nettles what the freaking hell? Girl can sing way better than that. Only thing I can think of is that the key just wasn't right for her voice.

7. The rap portion was needed as an update. What disappointed me is that you can tell that Will.i.am wrote it. What saved it was that LL Cool J obviously took over the rhythm of it. And that they all had to keep it simple to stay in sync. Because LL's style is way more appropriate than the Black Eyed Peas (who are very perky).

8. There is no reason on earth that T.Pain had a solo. I protest that one with much force.

9. How does Enrique Iglesias get invited to these things? Let alone a solo?
