This was a post I meant to do over a week ago. And then I kept adding videos. And THEN I realized that this wasn't going to be a post, it needed to be a series of posts over many days in order to spread out the love.

So.

[livejournal.com profile] minervacat had an awesome post last week about how sports fandom and media fandom are so alike - which surprisingly a lot of folks don't realize.

And this made me think "You know, everyone should post the YouTube videos of clips that show sports they love and how freaking awesome they are." Hence...

Sports Moments That Are Freaking Awesome: Moment #1

Now, you may think, because I'm Miss NASCAR, that my first sport moment would be NASCAR related. Don't worry, I'll inundate you with those clips later. Because my first is one of the first sports moments I remember from my childhood.

1983 NCAA Basketball Champions NC State Wolfpack

It DEFINED the Cinderella Story. They weren't supposed to be in the playoffs. They sucked. But they turned their season around at the right time and won the ACC Championship. It was the only way they would possibly make it into the NCAA playoffs. That was big enough. That could have capped the season off beautifully. But then they went on a historic run and did what no other team had done - they went into the playoffs as the worst team with the worst record, played like they had nothing to lose, and got the championship.

And Jim Valvano ran wild.

That final moment, when they win the game and everyone goes nuts, capped by Jimmy V running all over the court looking for someone to hug, is the first moment from my childhood that I remember sports having a huge impact.

We have models.

They're very tall. And angular. I swear one could slice cheese on the guy's cheekbones.

The chick is cool. The guy was glued to his iPod and I'm pretty sure, based upon the two words he uttered, that my IQ is twice his. (His hotness diminished due to this fact. His hotness also diminished due to the fact that he had more hair care products in his hair than I have in my cabinet. AND his clothes were too perfect in that "I have a stylist" kind of way.)
