Of Teenagers and Fashion Sense

As it's been an off and on day with more on earlier and off now (basically, since the last 20 minutes have been the few that have been slow), I've had the chance to just watch the teenagers walking the mall.

It's good to know that teenagers today are just as clueless about fashion as when I was in high school. Either they stick with what they know works (which tends to be very American Eagle) or they try out things from the fashion magazines to disastrous effect (the girl that just walked past in what looked like soccer socks - an attempt at being very Avril Lavigne, I'm guessing). There are the fortunate few that either have a parent with the money to be fashionable (usually meaning a very pretty and interesting dress or top combined with jewelry that's tasteful) or who have a peer group that is willing to guide them in experimentation (the skater/rocker kids really do have it all together, down to the hair dyed black in back and blonde in front).

It really hasn't changed that the outcast groups tend to try things to make themselves look different, while the popular group does their best to look alike. And most kids try to look like the popular group. While there's always one or two misguided kids that go for different without having a way to back it up. (I'll admit to being one of those on ocassion. Although the one time I really went for it, I nailed it perfectly. I just chickened out and went home out of fear of being different from me.)

Boris Said Is In The Show

It's great to know that NASCAR teams and drivers can still surprise us. Bill Elliott decided that it was in the best interest of the 21 team to get him out of the car and put Boris Said in. He apparently saw Boris this morning in the garage area and stopped him to ask what he was up to, then flat out offered him his ride. Then, while Boris was still in shock, he went to the Wood Brothers and told them that even on his best day, he wasn't as good as Boris at 90%. So approval was obtained and Boris is in the show. (Going to the back of the field from 39th is really no hardship, especially when he took the car from 26th to 9th in practice.) The best part? He's going to be wearing Bill's uniform. Bill's tall, but Boris is HUGE. Apparently it's a bit wee on him.

Oh, and apparently Boris was so eager for a ride that he actually said, on live television (either during the rained out qualifying or practice), that he'd take an offer from anyone. And then gave out his cell number. I'm pissed that I wasn't watching. Honestly? I'd have called him. It's Boris. There's no chance I'd have passed that up. I would have kept it short, but I'd have called him.
