First, a moment of silence for Coretta Scott King.

Oscar nominations are out. I'm glad that Jake Gyllenhaal finally was fit into some category for awards season. They had such a hard time finding a spot for him and knowing what to do (although I do agree that it's hard, as the movie is Ennis's movie, but they're both shown a lot, so whereas if it was a woman and a man, they'd both be leading roles...yeah). So I'm glad that he's nominated for supporting actor, because while he didn't have the outstanding part, he contributed mightily to the movie.
And looking at the nominations, we need more years like this, where there's genuine competition, where there's quality across the board, and where you can't pick a shoe-in in any category.
Oh, and Terrence Howard! Score, buddy!
