I enjoyed The Day After Tomorrow, even though it was incredibly far-fetched at points. Dennis Quaid is hot like a hot thing. The homeless guy was the best role (for some reason in disaster movies...it always is, and the dude rocked because he was obviously smarter than a hell of a lot of them). Notice the fact that he didn't question Prodigy Of Quaid about staying in the library. Guy had first hand experience about being in cold temperatures. Notice the protection of his dog, even giving him the last weiner.

Smarty Jones lost, which was sad. I would have loved if he'd won. But like John Servis (the trainer) said, he didn't run his normal race. Smarty didn't get out there and go. Birdwhatever did. I dare say, if Smarty had gotten in the groove it would have been stupendous.

But the one reason I'm kind of glad it didn't happen? Regan's death would have overshadowed Smarty's victory, and after all this time we deserve to celebrate a Triple Crown winner.

You know, NBC has a habit of doing those monochromatic collages of people when they die. When David Bloom died, they did that and I cried, because I knew even before the dates came up that it meant he'd died. Same happened with Reagan. As soon as I saw the picture (I'd tuned in early for TC coverage) I started bawling.

Dude. It's Reagan.

I know without even reading anything that people have their political views of various presidents. Whatever. This was the president of my childhood. The 80s were a golden time to kids. From what people have told me, it used to be much darker post-Vietnam. I got to grow up in a much rosier time (at least in my early childhood) thanks to economic booms and an affable politician (not tied to each other), amongst other things. The dark blips on the radar were things like the Challenger, but then Reagan made things feel all better with his words.

So I cried. It was sort of like the death of a childhood to see him go (although the death had been going on for years with his decline in health). I mourned Reagan and I'm proud to say it.

Where is the all-consuming mock for the fact that J.Lo has gotten married...again? Come on folks! Let us mock! Let's make bets! How long will it last, will she add another ring to her vast collection, who will be her next victim...there's so much to choose from!

I've quit the Coca-Cola again. I did a sharp decline on Saturday, was decent on Sunday despite the migraine when I woke up, and today I'm in decline again. Dang caffeine addiction.

The USA Gymnastics Women's National Title was Sunday afternoon, and despite the gushing of the announcers, it was boring. The girls are *good*, but I can't help but be certain that the Chinese and Romanians will kick their asses...as usual. But the title? Was a tie. Two girls won the championship. Hee. I find that cute and funny.

Tengo dos burritos y un te.

*snort* I'm not even sure I said that right (beyond the fact I couldn't add the accent on "te"). But...I had two burritos and tea. For lunch.

Edited because I'm an idiot at Spanish some days.

I took 5 years of Spanish in school. Three semesters in high school, two in college. The teacher in college was Columbian, and we didn't learn crap. The teacher in high school was redneck and she had us thinking in Spanish. She rocked.

Because I have to take one more semester of Spanish before I graduate (oh joy, I'll know how to Mirandize someone in Spanish!), I've been, in my bored moments, watching channel 40. In North Carolina, this is the Spanish channel out of Fayettehell.

Dude. They play Univision stuff. Not just crap TV. We get Univision. (Luisa is the local Hispanic show that airs on Sunday mornings, but she has a low budget, and no matter how pretty she is, her show is really dry.) Let me tell you, I was *hooked* on Sabado Gigante on Saturday night. Hooked. Anything resembling the Gong Show that includes a Mexican wrestler and a lion dragging people off stage? I'm there. I don't give a flying fuck that I have no clue what's being said. It rocked.

Luisa though...I have actually figured out on occassion what they were talking about, because they talk slower. One time it was about properly restraining your child in a car. Another time it was traffic safety. Big props to Luisa for having educational and entertainment content together.

I was thinking about something at lunch (when I went and got Mexican food)...it must suck like a Hoover to come to a new country, try and learn a new language...and have to deal with people with crazy accents like Southerners. It's the drawl. We don't say things right anyway ("right" being an excellent example). Those who end up with Northerners to learn from probably don't do much better if they have strong Jersey accents or the like. And I imagine that the Wisconsin and Minnesota accents throw foreigners for a loop. Really, the midwest and West are the best bets.

They should move Staten Island and the Statute of Liberty and make the main point of entry for the country like...somewhere around Oregon.
