Might as well keep with the theme.
Went to DC this weekend on a bus trip with family. Huzzah! Well, with my grandmother. To see the WWII Memorial.
To all the objectors that said that it would disrupt the lawn of the Mall...you're crazy. Standing at the Lincoln Memorial and gazing down toward the Washington Memorial, you can hardly even see it. The design fits perfectly with everything else.
My grandmother and I got mistaken for natives though. *snort* Because, you know, sitting on a bench means we don't necessarily have to SEE the monuments and are just lazing about, as opposed to the fact that it was really hot and my 80 year old grandmother needed a rest. I have no clue his reasoning.
Fifteen hours on the bus. Two in Washington. I got a lot of sleeping in.
The Memorial was incredible though. My grandmother cried. There were tons of vets milling about, lots of people. Very majestic, very peaceful, very appropriate for the Great War.
How does all this tie in to baby names?
Well, somehow we got on the subject of family names during the walk from the WWII Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. We have some doozies. Wesley is a family name. It's my dad and my cousin's middle name. Cecil is also a family name. Yeah, as much as I like it, it's an old name and not appropriate for a kid these days.
Then my grandmother popped out with a family name that I *like*, especially in context of the kids names that I have picked out.
I've had a yen for Nicholas as a boy's name for a while now. I just like it. I know, it's a romance novel name. Shoot me if you must. But the family name that I could stick with it is...Hughes.
Nicholas Hughes
I like it.
