1. If you could write the perfect Pete episode for Smallville, how would you do it, and what would the plot be?
Ooooohhhh. You are evil and tricky. *g* And you made me think way too much.
So here's how I would work it. Pete should be sort of the Xander of Smallville. By that I mean, he should be the eternally normal one, the one who's shoulder they all lean on. This was evidenced to a degree in Whisper. He's the one that leads Clark around and helps him out (without being overly concerned or condescending). He's the one that knows Clark's secret without letting it affect anything (it's a burden to him, but he's so nonchalant about the whole deal - I do love that with a passion). He also is excellent at rolling with the punches.
I would revolve the story around Pete as the rock. Of course I'd like to see this built up in episodes previous to the airing of mine, with a bit more screen time of Pete with Clark, Chloe and Lana. And maybe even the Kents. When we do see Pete, it's a given that he's the voice of reason and the one the more volatile characters tend to rely on to just be himself.
Pete is going to be a politician, so...what do those skills entail? And how do we see fledgling politician Pete handling his friends?
No FOTWs, no kryptonite, no alien anything. I'd have it revolve around elections for senior class president. This would be the time for Pete to throw his hat in the ring (a hark back to Drone). As editor of the Torch, Chloe wants an article on each of the candidates. She assigns Clark to Pete, and Clark goes for a sort of day in the life approach - follow Pete around on *his* normal routine and observe. We are, of course, going to see normal Pete type things - working on the Torch, hanging out with Clark - but we also would get to see the side of Pete that Clark didn't realize existed. Pete at work in a leadership role in a couple of clubs, Pete working with people not in Clark's social circle, being involved in various school and community activities. We'd also get to see him interacting with his family, because family dynamics can be telling about a person. We'd see Pete helping Lana with some problem solving at the Talon, without telling her what to do. We'd see him helping Chloe at the paper by making helpful suggestions. We'd see him displaying his artful knack for negotiation. We'd see people coming to him for advice on small things or just a person to listen, because Pete is a problem solver and a good shoulder.
Of course because this is the story of the young Superman/Clark Kent reporter, it would be influential on Clark to see that even those closest to you aren't necessarily exactly what you see. It would help him hone his investigative skills. Observation is key, and sometimes people fail to observe what's right under their noses. It's also a nice parallel to the Superman story. Pete's the same Pete he's always been, it's just now someone realizes. And of course this would be a big story for Clark - sort of that defining journalistic moment where he realizes and writes something far different and far better than what he's written before, taking him to the next step toward a professional career. Plus it would be sort of like a new power revelation episode, except this would be Clark finding out that not all of his talents come from the origin of his birth.
Plus it would be hysterical to see Chloe at the end getting challenged journalistically by someone. *g* Especially Clark. Sparring!
2. How many siblings do you have? Do they annoy you?
I have one sister who's 3 1/2 years younger than me. She's 5'7", thin, symmetrical, pretty, vivacious, a former cheerleader/beauty queen and tends to think bigger than she can achieve. And she has temper problems and tends to go nutso when she gets bored or overwhelmed with stuff to do. For the most part I love her, and like her most of the time. There are some times when she drives me insane for being so overwhelmingly self-centered. And I imagine when she screws up her marriage, that'll be a joy. I love her, but sometimes I want to smack her.
3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
This is really, really hard, because there are so many places I would like to visit (New Zealand, Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, New York City, New Orleans, etc.), there aren't too many places I'm dying to live. Maybe Atlanta. Definitely California for a while (hence me moving there in a year and a half). I'd kind of like to see what living in some place like Australia would be like, but that's a big leap of leaving the U.S. I think I'm drawn to California (okay, I know) because of all my online friends. A lot of you live there. And funny thing, in NC it's a 3 hour drive to the beach, which people do for a day trip, so I have no problems with commuting to see friends no matter where they are in the state. *g*
4. Have you ever been mistaken for a celebrity?
Nope. I have been mistaken for my mother though. Several times. Unfortunately she's not famous.
5. What initially drew you to watching Smallville?
John Schneider. I was actually quite sure I wasn't going to like it, because Tom Welling just wasn't Clark to me (I was basing this on commercials at the time and press info), but I thought the casting of John Schneider as Jonathan was brilliant. So I decided to give it a shot and watch the premiere. I stayed for Chloe. *g*
