When it's scary to identify

8 Simple Rules made me bawl like a baby last night. It was sad and touching and right. It wasn't an hour of maudlin (thank god), but it didn't try to make everyone laugh in the face of misery.

For some reason I really felt for the son on the show. Whereas in the past I found the kid annoying, last night he was the one I connected to because of the isolation he ended up facing by being the only male. He just didn't know how to cope. Grandpa being there for him helped.

Okay, now to the part where my life decided to take a turn for the sitcom. Unfortunately, not in a good way.

I admit to identifying with Lorelai, even her royally annoying habits and personality traits. The self-centeredness? Yoohoo, right there. The dramatics? Yep. The weird? I can do that to.

But until last night I wasn't aware that my mother could channel Emily.

And I don't mean in the good way.

And since she channeled Emily in fight mode, who do I channel in fight mode? Yep. Unreasonable Lorelai. Except now I understand how easy it is to go to unreasonable Lorelai.
