I have a major announcement to make, something you may not be aware of.
Your show, this talent show...it isn't about the contestants. It's about the fans. No, really, it is. We're the ones who become obsessed enough to phone in for two hours after a show. We're the ones who are going to buy the CDs. We're the ones who are going to buy the products shown during the commercials (because face it, most of them are products that can be found at Wal-Mart, and we hold no illusions that any of you fancy-schmancy big wigs is going near a Wal-Mart).
Therefore, it would behoove you to accomodate us. And you know how that would work best?
More phone lines. Internet voting. Hey, the text messaging was a nice addition. But do something to guarantee everyone a chance to vote. We want to participate. And it's great when we get a chance. But it breeds controversy when there probably is none, anger when there shouldn't be any, mistrust in a system that doesn't allow equal access.
Okay, I get the fact that it really didn't matter who won. Dammit, they're both good. They both worked hard. Honestly, I thought Clay was going to win, and was quite happy when Ruben did. They both have record deals. They both get their chance. We all knew they would.
But I've heard the complaints about getting through for voting, and I just would like to say, it's not all one-sided. I live in North Carolina. You know how difficult it must have been to get through for Clay here, right? Guess what. In my office there are five people who are religious AI watchers. At school I have four AI watchers in class with me. Two of the five at work and two of the four at school are Clay fans. Guess what folks? They. Got. Through. In NC. They were able to vote for Clay.
And all of us Ruben fans from school and work? Haven't gotten through for three weeks. I kid you not. My two coworkers who haven't even tried participating before tried to vote for Ruben last week and this week, and for the entire time the line was busy.
Do I think the AI voting system sucks? Yes. Do I think the voting could have happened a lot more fairly? Yes. Do I think this is some life-altering decision that will impact people for years to come? No. Do I think Clay is God *g*? No. Do I think Ruben is God? No. But do I have the option to like who I like and vote for who I vote for? Yes. Now producers, just give me that chance. At least with political elections, people can't complain if they didn't vote. When people try to vote and don't get the opportunity, that really isn't fair. For either side.
Side Note: For all future AI contestants, bit of a karma thing here. If you are in the top two, do not at any time turn to hug on the other contestant. You give yourself the bad Justin vibe, which means you will come in second. Justin hugged on Kelly. Clay hugged on Ruben. See the pattern?
