I've hit a certain stage with Smallville where I look at it and think, "you know, there are few things that could be done that, yeah, would make it a different show, but damn it would be more interesting."

They are as follows:

1. Dammit, the show is supernatural. I say screw trying to keep it grounded in reality at this point. Go all out and hog wild. If random people get mutated by the meteor rocks, then there should be an underground movement, something where a few have banded together. A group of super villains or super heros, depending on their bent.

2. See Joss Whedon on how to create a truly fun, action-packed, spooky supernatural show. Hell, even the hideous episodes of Buffy or Angel are better than the hideous episodes of Smallville.

3. Let all of the characters have flaws and let it be recognized that they have flaws. You like people because of who they are. You like them in spite of their flaws. You don't ignore who they really are, just because you like them.

4. Let Lana go evil. No, seriously. I'd almost say let it be revealed that Lana has been mutated by the meteorites, and has been since she was 3. This would cause the scientists much confusion, until it is realized that more than one mutation can occur, depending on the circumstances of the exposure and the quantity of exposure. But the realization would come that since age 3, Lana has had the ability to charm everyone (hello, would explain so damn much). Once she realizes this, she goes about trying to control it. She acheives control, but suddenly finds herself not being liked like she was before. In fact, the only friend she ends up with is Pete. This causes much confusion, heartache, and in the end, causes her to become a big ole nasty, hell bent on getting everyone to love her again. Hey, Lana popping up intermittently with the charm, or just *knowing* she had the ability would be damn interesting.

5. If Lionel has the ability to clone, well, we need a clone army, but let the clones be of citizens of Smallville. His own personal town that is decidedly evil. Wreaking havoc on a regular basis, popping up at odd times. You never know whether you're dealing with the original or the clone. Of course the clones can be killed, because they seem quite soulless (at least to me they do, and there's a hell of a lot of moral issues involved with cloning anyway), but hey, Lionel has the ability to create more.

6. Also, Lionel as the Big Evil. He's just so much damn fun and so good at it.

7. Chloe is the gatherer of all knowledge about all things supernatural in Smallville. This has already been established. Well, if she's the gatherer, wouldn't she be a good target if she happened to have a gift for finding out things? Lionel wants to win her over to his side because of her gifts. Others would want to kill her. She's the constant wild card, never knowing which way she might turn because of the people at work around her, trying to sway her. Yeah, she's ultimately a good guy, but there are flirtations with darkness.

8. Now Pete...okay, so he's quite normal. But folks, maybe that's the key. He sees things more clearly because he's not quite as involved as everyone else. He knows things, yes, but it's not the same knowledge that Chloe possesses. He's the voice of reason in an otherwise insane environment. This just screams out that he fill some future leadership role. He'll be the leader that prevents panic, shows the truth for what it really is, without a spin caused by anger, disillusionment, evil.

9. Clark needs to be smarter. Hey, it's that simple. And show a bit more of a moral quandry when it comes to killing. Or just maiming. These are people, not demons like in Buffyverse or Angelverse. And we need to have some serious trust issues from him that are grounded in logic. Not in one or two instances that do not form a pattern (ahem, see the distrust caused by Chloe snooping into other people's lives...when we've only seen it a few times, and that was early in this season at that).

10. Lex needs to be tempted more by his father's side. The dark side. Things beyond playing dirty in the business world. This is personal between them. We need to see more of an attempt to outdo his father, more of a struggle on the freaky, scientific front. Those meteorite experiments really need to be showcased more, and what their affect is on Lex. Because you know that physically he's not normal, but we've never been given much beyond "he has no hair" and "he doesn't get sick".
Doing this meme. Cause I'm sure Kathe was sending out subliminal messages that I do it.
