Gratuitous Adam Brody Drooling
Mmmmm. Adam.
Ahem. Gotta get an Adam Brody icon to make the drooling work.
Okay, so Gilmore Girls last night.
Nicole was cute before, but this new one...gets on my nerves. But only because she's not as likable as the last one. Oh. Wait. Maybe it's also the fact that she's going after Luke in the midst of their divorce when we were starting to see a little Luke/Lorelai progression. And she *knows* that Lorelai is a danger to her relationship.
Come on, she so knows.
What gets me about Lorelai or Luke dating other people is this...only one person has ever seemed in the least concerned about the relationship between Lorelai and Luke and it's implications on their relationship. Rachel. Hell, she left Luke because she knew she couldn't compete with Lorelai.
And she told him that, which is another whole bag of worms.
But seriously here. What has me really confused is Luke. Lorelai sort of knows she's got a thing for him. But she's sort of in denial. But not. Because she hasn't fully realized it yet. I know, confusing. But at least she has an excuse - blindness. Although man did she hint at something last night. Whew. But later for that.
Luke on the other hand *knows*. He knows his feelings for Lorelai. He knows because he's figured it out and he's had others figure it out and tell him.
And now it hits me. Lord. Because it's something I have in common with Luke.
He's happy in his lifestyle and is freaked out by the idea of change. Because he *knows* that Lorelai is the one, but that concept scares him, because he knows that to do anything would mean giving up his safe, comfortable, solitary existence (and for those of us who *like* that existence and the freedom from nagging it affords, well, giving it up is *hard*).
Lorelai knows this, doesn't she? Her comment last night about Luke getting up off his butt and doing something about them...I was highly confused and thought for a while it was something else, but no, she knows. This makes so much sense in regards to their relationship. Luke keeps going into doomed relationships because he knows they're doomed. He knows things ultimately won't work out with Nicole. But it's a way to avoid the reality that is Lorelai. He likes having her as a friend. He wants more. But he's scared of the changes that would come with more, because Lorelai is a whole lot of more.
And Lorelai is a passionate person who loves to love (and deserves to have the chance, because face it, she gave up a lot when she had Rory). She's the opposite of Luke, desperately wanting that change in her lifestyle. She suspects that Luke could be the one, but she's not waiting around to see if he'll make a move. She keeps looking, trying to find more. While she can be borderline at times on committing to a guy (Max for instance), she ultimately backs away because the fit isn't just right.
Maybe, though, she knows, deep down (or not so deep down, depending on what she said last night) that Luke is the one afraid of change, so he has to make the move in their relationship. He has to decide to choose her, because otherwise it'll be her running him to ground. Her doing the pursuing might drive him away or resent the loss of his comfort zone. But when he does make the move, he'll be solidly choosing her.
Damn. Look at me and the GG meta. Woohoo!
Something that strikes me as odd though is that all of the girlfriends/boyfriends don't seem to be threatened by the other. Lorelai does a good job of hiding Luke from the boyfriends (I have a feeling they'd recognize the psuedo-husband vibe really quickly). She doesn't want to ruin her chance because Luke hasn't gotten up the nerve yet. But Luke doesn't fail to introduce his women to Lorelai. Maybe in an effort to sabotage the relationship early on by introducing them to his best friend, who's also chatty and good looking and has tons of influence with Luke? Given his crotechty nature, I'd say the fact that she has tons of influence with them, and the friendship is so genuine...that has to be the most forboding part. Maybe Nicole is smart to try and date him while they're still married. It gives her an edge. But still, grasping at straws.
And dude! Michel! My Michel bear was on last night. *drool* I adore my Michel. He is so with the sexy. There's just something inherently wrong with the fact that the two sexiest men on this show (and they're both very sexy) are so diametrically opposed. Completely different. Yet so scrumptious.
Lane still cracks me up. Hey, GG folks! If you want to do a spin off, use the Kims. And man, I so want to see Papa Kim. When are we going to get Papa Kim?

At first I was mightily ticked off. Still am to a degree, because there's only so long that this dance can be dragged out before *something* has to happen. Like with Lorelai and Christopher, things change over time, and if an opportunity passes by, it's nigh on impossible to get it back again.
I just wish they'd dump Digger. He annoys me. Maybe Luke will beat him up. Hmmm. That would be nice. Or Michel eviscerates him with the biting wit. Or Emily serves him up on a roasting dish.
Luke, Michel and Emily - the triumverate of pain
Normally I'd agree with you about Hollywood not knowing how to do Asian families (because, let's face it, Hollywood has issues with any minority), but if the GG folks stayed in charge of it and wrote for it, I think there'd be better potential. They already have built up the characters well through the course of Gilmore Girls. These aren't characters that are Asian first and foremost. It's part of who they are, but not completely. Plus Lane and Mama Kim rock. *g*
But if the WB got hold of it and tried to change anything...lord have mercy, then it would hit the crapper.
