You know what I hate? When Livejournal totally craps out in the middle of making a post and erases everything. Why so hateful, Livejournal?

TV, Book Recs

Need recs on a few things.

TV

1. Preferably period.
2. Would kind of like something based on literature.
3. And if it's a series from the UK, even better.
4. If there's a hint of romance, even better.

Books

1. Preferably not contemporary.
2. Romance.
3. If there are pirates, Scots in kilts, or court drama, awesome!

Additionally, the following tropes in romantic fiction always push my buttons (in a good way). Would love any rec for stories that feature these.

1. Friends who fall in love.
2. Female pretending to be a boy (which obviously works better in non-contemporary fiction). Tis most awesome when she's the cabin boy. Don't judge me.
2. Scenarios that involve the sibling of a close friend. You know, her best friend's older brother, his best friend's sister. That kind of thing.

The Pride and Prejudice mini-series with Collin Firth. Considering your criteria for TV, you MUST have seen this before, so I recommend... you watch it again. Along the same lines, have you seen the movie House of Mirth?

I have that. LOL In fact, I keep thinking I need to do a rewatch and drag a friend over who's never seen it.

Saw House of Mirth in the movie theater. Gillian Anderson made me. Okay, not literally, but good X-Files fans had to see it!

Hmmm...when you say not contemporary, does that include paranormal as well?

I'm very hesitant about the paranormal romances. Ghosts are about as far as I go in that genre, and for the most part even that doesn't click with me much. It all depends on the characters, to a degree.

Read Marjorie M. Liu's "Dirk and Steele series". It's action as well as romance, and the characters have powers like the X-Men.

Trust me...I'm picky about my romance, too, and this is one series I adore.

The first one is "Tiger Eye."
