Bad night. Bad morning. Just overall bad. Bad, bad, bad.

I'm headachey. Combination of stress, need of caffeine, and allergies. Allergies brought on by having an extra, very salivatory dog in the house.

***

Class last night. I now know with certainty that any medical field will never, ever be an option for me.

We watched an autopsy video. Blunt force head trauma that put him in the hospital, pnumonia killed him. It was very, very nasty. Very nasty. The sounds were sometimes worse than what was being seen.

***

Diane Warren night!

You know, she doesn't look anything like what I expected. I sort of expected something more blonde and airy. More Stevie Nicks than...Pat Benetar meets soccer mom. Huh.

Carmen

The girl isn't going to win. Thank you Simon and Randy for pointing that out, because she needed to hear it. (Although it probably just caused the voodoo mind spell to go into overdrive.) The fact of the matter is that on the talent front, she's at the bottom of the six. She does not have what it takes to win at this point.

Clay

I love Clay's voice and I really love the way he sang that song. It really was beautiful. But I really am in total agreement that pop is not the genre for him. Adult Contemporary, some opera-light, Broadway, uber-Josh Groban...those things would work for him. Even the pop songs work. It's just that they then do not become marketable as pop. He de-pops what he sings.

Kimberly Locke

See, I wasn't as impressed with that song. To me it was too low for her. And she was yelling some at the chorus too. Yes, I think she's far more formiddable a talent than she gave the impression of at the beginning of the top 12, but I don't think it's a matter of her improving. I think she's just gotten back to the level she had before the top 12.

Josh

Did not like this song choice either. It was boring. And I wasn't too happy that he de-countrified. Pick one and stick with it hon.

And since we're getting down to a very talented few, I'm hoping that Josh can up the ante for himself. That wasn't a good performance last night, and honestly, it puts him right behind Carmen in my book.

Trenyce

Personally, I thought she did really well. I didn't quite hear the pitchiness that Randy heard, but I though she did really well. I do agree with Simon though that we don't see her personality. What she sees as giving off a lady-like, reserved air actually comes across as bitchy and diva. If she isn't that, she needs to change fast. Because Carmen has her fans not because of talent, but because of the bubbly personality and cute look.

Ruben

I love Ruben. I adore Ruben. He took a song I despise and actually made me like it (and how much better does that song sound with a deeper, richer voice than the N'Sync boys?).

My problem with this format is that we should be eliminating number 4 tonight, not number 6. Two extra weeks, means two too much. Even Ruben is starting to lose his shine.

Ranking
1. Ruben
2. Clay
3. Trenyce
4. Kimberly Locke
5. Josh
6. Carmen

I have been very nice. I didn't even give a cutesy subhead in the cut text.

If I had, it would have read, "Smallville or When Really, Really Bad Fanfic Writers Take Over."

That was a disaster. Hideous. Horrible. Worst. Episode. Ever.

I was tempted to shoot the TV. Except I like my TV. And it gave me Gilmore Girls earlier, so why punish the TV for bad Smallville?

Let's see, how many ways did this suck.

1. Hearsay: Evidence based on the reports of others rather than the personal knowledge of a witness and therefore generally not admissible as testimony.

Okay, so, now the police officer is judge and jury? In any state, county, town in the United States an officer that did not arrest those three guys would have lost their job.

First off, they physically assaulted her. Aggravated assault. Under the eyes of the law, their hands are weapons. Hell, there were broken items *showing* she got assaulted. Second, Lana is the proprietor of the establishment. She asked the men to leave. They refused. They were at that point trespassing. Committing a crime. Then there was the fact that they were inebriated. Another strike against them. Add in the fact of implied threat, which while not explicit had implications since it was three large men alone with one 16 year old girl.

That cop should have her ass all kinds of fired.

Also there is a major, major problem with the whole "hearsay" thing. Hearsay is Clark testifying in court about what Lana told him happened. It would be inadmissable because of the hearsay rule. If a cop shows up at a scene and someone claims to have been assaulted, you haul the alleged criminal to jail. No exceptions. It is not up to the cop to decide who is or isn't telling the truth. Especially in the case of assault. Hell, in many domestic violence cases, women will call the law on their mates on a Friday night just so the cops will hold him until they can go to court on Monday.

Can you tell how much that one pissed me off?

Oh wait, there's more...

2. Lana Sue

I hate Lana Sue. And this Lana Sue was bigger and more grandious than any other Lana Sue before.

Oh look, our perfect princess can suddenly kick ass. Our perfect princess is amazing. Our perfect princess is just so damn perfect.

Gag me with a spatula.

3. Sexual assault as a means of changing a character's personality.

Cheap. Lazy. Horrendous. I boycott this episode. I actually feel like writing to them about the horrendousness of this episode. They should be shot for sexual assault as a means of making Lana into a more kick ass character.

I hate this writer. Who is the writer? Because I hate them.

4. Clark the Destroyer

I do hope they have a very, very good reason for Clark's sudden tyranical bent. Because if not...they may lose me.

And the Lex side of things wasn't much better. The police work was shoddy. Helen could have taken out a restraining order at any time (hell, she really doesn't need a reason to get a restraining order).

Overall I was extremely disappointed in this episode. Hated it with a passion. Would rather watch Skinwalker on repeat for three days straight than see this again.

ITA.

"Oh, look at me, poor little Lana!"

"Oh, look at me, crazy crazy Calrk!"

"Oh, look at me, cute Chloe who eyefucks everyone now!"

Honest to God, Chloe must have gotten laid recently, because that girl is just brazen with the touching and eyefucks now. Am I just imagining it?

Queen: If you are, can I live in your imagination? And then maybe write a few fanfics about it? LOL

Mave, sweetie, word about everything you said. I was like, "How can it be hearsay if those guys assaulted her?"

I hate Lana Sue, too. I'm writing a sternly worded essay for Ksite because I know M&G read the site. I'm off the Smallville train if they keep up with this crap next season.

I saw it in last week's eppy, too, when she's all touching Clark and Pete in the shop room. Honestly! She just dragged her hand across his shoulders...it really struck me as more than flirty.

Me thinks our Chloe is growing up! Awww....

You're not imagining it. On the one hand, I'm always rooting for my girl to get some sex, on the other hand I know they're going to punish her for it and it makes me cry. Let the poor woman have some mayhem free orgasms. Yeesh.

I taped AI last night and haven't yet watched my tape so I appreciate the run down mave sweetie. I watched Gilmore Girls instead. Much better show and Luke is just toooo funny!

About Smatzville ... yeah .. I agree ... pretty unrealistic episode overall ... but you expect realism on the WB? Home to Hottie Central. I think not. If SV continues on like this, I'm gone. Period. As it stands, it isn't holding my interest now. Season 2 is just overall bleh. Bleh.

*hugs*

Couldn't recall the Legal Stuff - Just Like the Writers!

Of course, I heard a bunch of it when I was in high school. Twould explain the memory gap. But these (as in the writers) are professionals, yes?

The Lana thing is working my last damn nerve. I thought NewSherriff was gonna call her on the LIE/crap, but instead, she compliments her cappuccinno! Clark learned the temper lesson LAST YEAR. Of course, this year, we get it with FINANCIAL consequences. And if we assume that Lana is suddenly Lana, Warrior Princess, uh, how come FakinMahInjury Boy didn't go after her as well? She's a *business* owner, partnered up with LEX LUTHOR. What is that? Clark's wrong - and she's *right*?

::must hold onto SV love::

TPTB are so not making it easy. :(

Big ole' 'word' to Smallville. Seriously. I was so confused when so many LJs that I was reading said that they "loved" the episode. Dude, what we're YOU watching??

Sigh. Poor Smallville. Such a train wreck.

From: [identity profile] maveness.livejournal.com

One of the people on my Friends list actually commented on the completely disparate views of the episode. Of course we're at one end of the spectrum, and there were some people who loved it...almost favorite episode loved it. Of course I think some of it may have had to do with the Lex storyline. I just don't pay as much attention to Lex as I do to Clark et al, so that part may have been better. I just never really get into it as much.

See now this is where it gets weird, I'm a BIG Lex fan (I watch the show for Chloe and Lex, that's abt it..) but I still didn't enjoy it. I guess I'm just getting to the point where "Ohhhh, Lex is hot, oooooh Lex is on a train!!" isn't enough for me to enjoy the show anymore. I want more. (Like.. Um, decent dialog, cohesive plots and three dimensional characters). Is that so wrong?

I pretty much agreed w/ all your comments, both on AI and on Smallville. (W/ the tiny exception that I like Kimberly Locke better than Trenyce.)

As for Smallville, I agree w/ you on all the things wrong w/ it. And yet, I still found myself all happy at the end, because Lex was so sweet and sincere and devoted-like at Helen. No matter how bad the show is overall, vulnerable serious Lex makes me go all mushy.

Of course, there's now about a 95% chance that Lex w/ go evil when Helen either dumps him or dies.

(W/ the tiny exception that I like Kimberly Locke better than Trenyce.)

It's funny, personality-wise, I can't stand Trenyce. I personally think she's a diva. Sometimes I give her the benefit of the doubt because she really doesn't show too much of her personality on the show, but then she makes a little face that reconfirms that I think she's a diva.

And K. Locke...I love her personality and actually like her voice much better than Trenyce's voice. And K. takes more risks than anyone else in song selection which sometimes backfires on her because the song isn't quite right for her voice.

No matter how bad the show is overall, vulnerable serious Lex makes me go all mushy.

*nods* I think for everyone that did love the show, or at least liked parts of it, it was because of Lex. I myself am not so much a Lex person. I actually tend to tune out a bit when he's on screen. I know he's going to be evil, so I can't seem to connect with him.

Of course, there's now about a 95% chance that Lex w/ go evil when Helen either dumps him or dies.

Hmmm. Or if maybe she tells the Kents about Lex's room? Thereby causing a major fight and picking sides that aren't his? We'd get a decent into evil AND a rift, all at once.

And no, that's not a spoiler, just conjecture. *g*

Re:

I'd actually like it better if there was a rift over the Kents, I think. Just because "the death of his true love made him turn to evil" is a wee bit cliched.

Then again, I think there's some definite potential in the fact that she knows stuff about the Kents that she isn't telling Lex. Not just rift potential, but I like the idea of her being that similar to Lex - smart, but self-contained and keeping her own counsel. It's so seldom we get women characters who do that unless they are evil.

On the Locke/Trenyce thing, I freely admit that a lot of my preference is that Kimberly Locke just seems so darn much nicer. It's the smile, I think. She looked very pretty - of all of them, I think she was one where the hair coloring was a good thing (or even noticeable.)

Much as like music, I don't seem to have the same ear as many people w/ some talent/experience with it. I can plainly tell when someone is really bad (like Carmen nearly always, or Joshua last night), or very good but on the people who are in between- good but not perfect, I honestly can't always hear the difference where one person is a little off and the other is right on.
