It is possible that I have PMS, based upon the things that have pissed me off today.
The Pompous Telemarketer
*phone rings*
ME: XYZ Company
GUY: (think Hollywood cliche patronizing agent voice) I'd like to speak to Jerry* please. Thanks so much.
ME: (hackles rising because tone of voice is grating) Mr. XYZ is out of the office until the 19th.
GUY: (interrupts) Then I need you to do me a favor.
*pause*
ME: (thinking this is going to be good, or I may find a way to kill him through the phone) Yes?
GUY: Transfer me to your chief financial officer. Okay?
ME: (hackles on full alert) Sure thing! (transfers guy to voicemail - my own voicemail)
*Jerry is, of course, not his actual name.
The thing that grates on my nerves about those calls? First, they don't know Jerry. Second, that deal where they ask for him is usually because they want to sell us something that we don't want to buy. Third, they have no people skills and think that talking down to the secretary will make them seem important. Fourth, we've been getting way too many calls from CFO magazine lately being annoying for me to take any request to speak to the CFO seriously. (Especially considering anyone who does need to speak to the CFO knows who she is.)
