( these chairs in our lobby. )MIKE: (to me and coworker Rob) These chairs are not ugly. They're
Matisse! Don't you like Matisse?
ROB: I like Matisse, but on these chairs it doesn't work.
ME: When we got the chairs, they sufficed and fit into the overall decor. These days, though...well, they're ugly.
MIKE: But they're Matisse! Matisse doesn't go out of style. Something from 1890 doesn't go out of style.
ROB: Maybe it's the fact that it's on fabric, but everyone I've ever talked to says their ugly.
MIKE: Well, if they're your friends, you know why.
ROB: Jenny (ex-girlfriend) even said they were ugly, and you like Jenny's taste.
MIKE: (silence)
ME: Sometimes what works on canvas doesn't translate well to other mediums. Piece of artwork - okay. Chair - not so good.
MIKE: They're not ugly!
ROB: They're dated! They're out of style!
ME: Seriously, look at those things. They look like they belong in the 80s. Hell, they're Bill Cosby sweaters. You saw that pattern on the Cosby Show and slouchy women's sweaters that they wore with acid washed jeans or leggings.
ROB: That's it! They are! I'm calling them the Cosby chairs from now on.
