Dear producers of American Idol:

Two weeks ago was country week, a night that actually went really well. I was starting to worry that that night was going to be the pinnacle of this season: full of some solid performances, but still lacking that "wow" factor.

Who woulda thunk that Bon Jovi Night would bring the house down?

Also, I've figured out my criteria for rooting for someone on American Idol - complete and utter comfort on the stage where there's nary a thought going through their head but "sing!" and utter abandon with emotion. If they love what they do, it makes all the difference. Heck, look at Phil. You can tell the point when he stopped analyzing everything he was doing on Idol and just started enjoying performing. I respond to certain visual cues, and those cues are rooted in whether a person just sinks into the music and goes for it. (It started with Kelly Clarkson and I've been a goner ever since.)

My general obliviousness to my surroundings actually disappeared at lunch and I noticed someone for once. One of those things where I'm walking down the street and accidentally look at someone approaching me just as they look at me. Random and totally not worthy of commentary normally, except the man kept checking me out (and I know this because I kept looking at him to figure out if he really did look like who I thought he looked like - I was much more subtle, though).

So basically, I got checked out by...

a guy who could be half brothers to Bobby Labonte and Jamey Sheridan ). (You know, NASCAR driver and the captain on Law and Order: Criminal Intent.)

We're talking Bobby's face with a dose of Jamey, especially the hair. Oh, and about 5'11". But more Bobby's age, around early 40s.

I'm more intrigued by the fact that I could for once identify who someone looked like than the fact he was checking me out. Probably because the odds of him being single were small and married men checking me out doesn't trip my trigger.
