American Idol

1. Mandisa: I loved her song selection, and despite a couple of pitch issues, loved her singing. I'm going to be different from everyone else and declare her my favorite female.

2. Kellie: I'll give her a slight benefit of the doubt on nerves (which also explains the completely southern rambling about her grandpa and sandwiches), but hey, as everyone knows, I'm a Martina McBride snob. And while I appreciate her choosing a song that isn't Broken Wing or Independence Day, she killed How Far.

3. Becky: Oy. Can we please send her home now? She actually sang better than Kellie, but her voice is way too bland to be singing a song like that.

4. Ayla: My god, the girl can sing pretty! Sadly, that was pretty much note for note Christina's version (made it her own? do they have ears?). Can I just point out, though, that "Mulan was my favorite movie growing up" just points out that she is really, really young, because Mulan came out on video my senior year of college. I'm not even 30 folks. I'm young!

5. Paris: While the bouncing around the stage was a little too Diana Degarmo on speed, I loved the song and the way Paris sang it. I also loved her hair. Only she and Dorothy Hammill can rock the hair like that.

6. Stevie: As I explained to my mother, she didn't pick a bad song. She just chose to strangle a great song. By far the worst choice of the night and possibly the history of the show. She is SO a goner.

7. Brenna: I know a lot of folks like her, but my family can't stand her. It's the attitude. For the most part I like attitude in a person, but not when it seems to be at the expense of really absorbing feedback for future reference. She's a little too Corey Clark cocky for her own good as well. (Funny thing is, I think her "attitude" to Simon was put on. Totally for show when he said bring out the claws again. Except she never, with any judge, would admit her song choice sucked. Great song, but totally not her.)

8. Heather: Now that was a hideous song choice. Dear lord, why!

9. Melissa: Oddly enough, I thought the song suited her and was a decent choice, but she doesn't have the greatest control over her voice. What is it with the sultry, raspy voiced white girls? The only one that really has ever stood a chance was Jessica Sierra, and she still fell victim last year.

10. Lisa: Technically flawless. Also cold as ice. I get that she's talented and I agree that she deserves to be in the top 12, but I just can't connect with her. Plus her "routine" during the song made me think of a Broadway number that makes perfect sense in the context of a musical, with story before and after, but it's not a Broadway number that lifts out of the show and stands alone well. The rehearsed nature of her movements and facial expressions...I just don't feel it.

11. Kinnik: Um, I know Get Here is a popular song and a really good song, and I don't doubt that tons of people audition with it, but I can only remember two performances of it from season one (Ejay and Justin). While she was pitchy at times (tonight I think there were a total of two non-pitchy performances), I still liked it. It's a great song and she has a pretty voice. Plus her dress kicked booty.

12. Katharine: Great song. Great singer. Technically marvelous. Performance is fantastic. Maybe she'll grow on me.

How to annoy me at work:

So, we've had this proposal for a week now that we knew would be due tomorrow at 2 in another city. But yeah, we're waiting to the last minute (again) to do it, because why plan ahead? Oh, can you stay late? *growls*

The worst part? This happened Monday. It's happening again today. Two separate proposals, two nearly identical situations, and yet they can't use yesterday to work on it. They have to wait until the day we need to FedEx it out the panic.

I've been given exactly one thing to type up on a form. It's the money. I'm not typing it until later, because inevitably, as they're writing, the money will change. Granted, it won't if I put it off, but if I did it right now? It would change.

Dear lord. I've gone and done it in a vague way. They've been talking since Sunday. Just the convo for today, as there's not much action involved and really, the conversation says it all.

NASCAR

As I'm sitting at work, waiting for the last pieces of the proposal to drift my way (edits, people, give me the edits!), I started reading Power Rankings.

Kurt Busch: Well, he admitted that he got his ears pinned back, and they look nice. But he didn’t do it to make himself look better. He wanted to make sure he could actually use a roof hatch at Daytona. (Let it be noted, I did in fact say his little scrolly picture on Sunday looked good. It deemphasized his ears. Now I know why.)

Greg Biffle: The winner of the Too Much Information Quote of the Year Award has already been uttered, and Biffle said it: "But anytime I’ve had anything a little leery on my car, I know about it. We’re teammates. We communicate night and day. We’re sitting in our motor home in our underwear talking about racing. We know everything that is going on." (Um, think I pointed that out on Saturday!)

Jamie Mac: By the time he pushed the hair out of his eyes, Kurt Busch was already in the wall. (Straight up, HEE!)
