It's a singing thing

Because I'm really bored and really hyper lately, my task for tonight (besides cleaning) is to actually write down every single CD and tape I own. And record album. Just because. Sort of a meme for LJ if you will. Think of the fun of teasing each other over the really weird things we still have in our collection? So yeah, tonight, for posting Monday.

American Idol

One thing that bugs me with American Idol is the fact that rarely do we hear this young folks sing lots of artists that *we* love. I love the oldies, but the old standards have been done over and over. You know, it's weird to say, but after three different Idols have been crowned, I kind of think every song they sang should be banned from the competition. There are tons of great songs out there. Tons of great artists. As much as I love Stevie, none of them have really *been* Stevie, so it's time to find something new.

My list of artists I'd like to see have their songs sung (and keep in mind that, yes, I'm a sucker for some of the 80s and the vocal abilities required to sing their songs, or at least the interpretive abilities and maturity to sing some of these):

Bangles
Pat Benetar
Prince
Cyndi Lauper
Elvis
Trisha Yearwood
Bruce Springsteen
John Melloncamp

Granted, the chances that some of those artists would permit their songs to be sung is minimal, but hey, I'd love to hear them.
