I'm going to prod a little more, just to get some more participation (or in case you missed it).

A poll on the state of Smallville

Go. Take. Poll. It's simple and easy. And it's making my brain work. You'll get an essay out of it, I promise.

Mainstream news is now all over the Kevin Spacey as Lex and Kate Bosworth as Lois news tidbit.

This tells me a few things:

Brandon Routh hopefully is really damn good in the role, because otherwise he'll be overshadowed by Spacey.

Kate Bosworth will be given the benefit of the doubt, because I've never seen anything with her in it, but I've never heard that she sucked either. So there's hope in there.

Unless Spacey Gene Hackman's the part, Spacey's Lex could take over the spot as my ultimate Lex.

I've been honest about my thoughts on the movie (the few times I've said anything). I can keep them all seperate. To me, episodic television and movies are best seperate, for the most part, because the storytelling happens in different ways. TV allows for more character development over an extended period of time. For me at least, episodic television is more allowable for a fandom to build, versus movies, which have finite periods of time in the public eye and limited story.

But above all, I'm a Superman ho. I will watch anything Superman. Anything. Except cartoons, but that's because of timing and cable issues.

And just because I feel like reiterating it again, and I actually think it's fun...

My Ultimate Superman List:

Clark Kent/Superman will always be Christopher Reeve. No matter that certain elements of the movie and how they portrayed the Clark Kent/Superman dynamic no longer work for, while the LnC take on the dynamic now does, the portrayal itself will always bee Chris. Always.

Lois Lane is still ultimately Teri Hatcher for me. If, at any point during a series or movie, the characterization is dead on, that seals the deal. And Teri sealed the deal in the role that first season. Heck, in the first episode I was hooked on her. My mother and I (which was weird at the time, because dad is the comic type, not mom) watched that first episode together, and afterwards we came to the same conclusion: Dean was okay as Clark, but that was Lois Lane. She was everything that Lois was supposed to be. Slightly bitter, abrasive, smart, independent, no-holds-barred, a loner, outgoing...she was a woman who embraced who she was and went for it. You didn't have to like it, or her, but she was who she was.

Lex Luthor has been Michael Rosenbaum since near the beginning of Smallville. Granted, it's easy to excel over your competition when one actor - well known at that - is given hideous direction on the role, and the other opts out of the series resulting in a weird write-out. MR has owned the character in the right way. Spacey is his only forseeable competition for the ultimate list in my mind, because Spacey is so damn smart, and you can see it in his eyes. And something tells me he'll (hopefully) play it like MR plays it.

Perry White is Lane Smith in my mind, has been for a while. The Perry of the movies was just a little too not involved, and we've only seen a brief glimpse of down-and-out Perry on Smallville. So Lane is the guy. Gruff, has a caring heart, but puts up with no bull. And it's his newsroom, thank you very much.

Jimmy Olsen is Marc McClure, now and forever. Personally, the characterization of Jimmy as sarcastic has never been for me, mainly because Marc was my first exposure to the character. So I've always been a sucker for a Jimmy that's in awe of Lois and/or Clark, sort of the kid brother.

Pa Kent is...a tie. See, I just can't choose between John Schneider and Eddie Jones, mainly because it's easy to see how JS's Jonathan could become Eddie's Jonathan. To me, Eddie just is the older version.

Ma Kent, sadly (and no disrespect to my lady, just to AlMiles who don't do women well, if at all) it goes to K. Callan. I've loved Martha as being more in-your-face since she designed that suit. And the idea of Martha being slightly hyper (come on, retirement meant she had her hands in all sorts of things because she had to stay busy) was just so adorable.

Lana Lang is Annette O'Toole though, because grown up Lana with her kid just made you like her. Spastic, nice, pretty, a little ditzy, but just full of life. She was a small town girl who was happy there, which lends perfectly to the idea of being the girl Clark left behind.

Pete Ross hasn't been in any other show except Smallville (unless they showed him way back in the day), so it's with no hardship that I say that Sam Jones III will always be my ultimate Pete. *g*

Why is it so dang hard to do research on a play?

Okay folks, need info.

Neil Simon

"The Odd Couple"

The play

Give me info. Besides Felix and Oscar, what are the other characters in the play?

ETA: The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] linda_seton gave me what I needed, and it solidifies it. I'm totally trying out for this play. British ditzes! The two females are British ditzes! Oh the comedic fun. I want to play a ditz! And British!

Logically, of course, I think I should *insist* that they fly in someone really British to coach me. I'm thinking...[livejournal.com profile] huffytcs should haul her butt over here. Yes. I think so. *g*
