I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before, but my little Toyota Carolla is a good car. Lots of heart, goes like the dickens (with crappy maintenance, because I know nothing). Junebug is a good little car. A 1997 and only the starter has ever had to be replaced.

Which is why I kind of knew it was probably bad when, last night, Junebug threw a fit. Suddenly my top speed is 35. Luckily I was almost home, but not so luckily, there were teenagers walking in the road right before a turn in which I'd have to go up a steep hill. Let's just say...those teenagers better be very glad they got out of my way.

The diagnosis as of 8:30 this morning from the Toyota place (because all other mechanics open on Saturday in Asheboro are NOT to be trusted), is a blown transmission.

Total cost to replace: $2,500

I'm going to be in the corner crying now.

My biggest hope is that my sister, who has an extra car, will sell it to me. My parents and I discussed last night what to do if it was an expensive fix. They were willing to loan me the money. This is a LOT of money though, and I could probably buy my sister's car for less than that. Yes, it's a stick shift, but I would honestly learn. Fast.

ETA: Well, as of right now, my car has been towed to a transmission specialist who's going to see if it's a transmission problem that can be fixed for cheap, or if it's going to require rebuilding the transmission.

This also means my dad just drove me to get a rental car. I'm now cursing the fact that I didn't stump his logic with my logic. I only *need* a car for work next week. I could easily survive until Monday without a car. Since Enterprise has the cheaper rates, I could have had them pick me up Monday morning, do the transaction then...that's two less days of paying for a car. I could have easily walked home from work today. It's a 20 minute walk to my apartment. But noooooo. Dad says I have to have a car before Monday. And me, because it was early, I didn't think about that. *pouts*

On the plus side, the rental car is red. I'm hoping Junior brings me luck. (*prays Junior doesn't get a DNF at Martinsvile*)

ETA2: I'm a disgrace to my NASCAR fangirls. I totally didn't pay attention to the make of the car. It's a Chevy! LOL A red Chevy. Junior, you better frickin' WIN Martinsville, because my rental is a completel shoutout to you. Plus I want Junebug back. Junebug, the car. Not Junebug the Junior.

Also, because it was inevitable that I would have no food in the house while my car was acting up, I walked to Burger King last night. 20 minutes, through the cemetery. I was really craving Dixie Express, but I didn't want to cross 64 with all the idiot Asheboro teenagers.
