I'm voting third party this election.

I've been vocal about that. I'm dissatisfied with both candidates and both parties, so I'm voting on a third party in order to make a statement. I know *plenty* of people who are doing the same.

But I swear, the next person who bitches at me for voting third party, telling me I'm throwing my vote away...seriously, I'm going to say the inevitable. Every time someone tells me (and 99.9% of the time this is the case, from my own personal experience) that by voting third party I'm taking away votes from Kerry, I'm going to smile and say "Okay, so I'll vote for who I would probably vote for if I wasn't making a statement through my third party vote. I'll vote for Bush."

That actually shut up a coworker the other day.

Here's the facts: Throwing your vote away is not voting at all. Everyone has different priorities, different beliefs. People vote for a person or they vote for a party. They vote because it's their choice, and it's their choice who they vote for. The Republicans and Democrats have a stranglehold on American politics. I'm voting third party as a way of making a statement that there should be *other* options. I understand that those voting Nadar would normally vote Democrat. I'm not one of them. And I know others voting third party who aren't one of them either.

For his 30th birthday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. received a 6-foot statue of Elvis.

Dude. I want one! (The Elvis statue, not Junior. Although I could deal with that too if he'd take over my car maintenance and credit card bills.)
