It's days like today where I want to scream, just because there are so many fascinating or interesting jobs out there. And I want to do them all.
Yes, I've been spending most of the morning either working or hovering at Weather.com or the National Hurrican Center's website. Because meteorology in the form of hurricanes fascinates me.
I was unaware, for instance, that in 2002 Hurricane Andrew was reclassified as a Category 5. As expected, Hugo was number 11 on the list of hurricanes by power, and number 2 based on cost.
I remember (based on the cost scale) Hugo (2), Floyd (3), Fran (4), Bob (10), and Bonnie (17). Heck, three of those? Were while I was at college. The eye almost passed over us on one of those (Hurricane Fran was that one, Hurricane Bertha was a 2 that passed directly over us the same year as Floyd).
Luckily for me, I *don't* remember when Andrew went through. I know it was because it was Florida and we live in North Carolina. But my uncle and cousins lived in Homestead. Yeah. And they waited too late to get out. We didn't hear from them for three days, which drove my grandmother nuts. We've already delivered the Frances edict to my cousin Zak, who is the only one left on the Atlantic coast of Florida (my cousin Jennifer is in Tampa...she already did her evacuation for Charley).
