Since it's the last night of Last Comic Standing (well, Thursday night is, with the big reveal), I'm going to make my prediction.

John Heffron all the way.

Here's my thing about this show. I loved Grandma Lee in the early rounds, but it showed last night that she wouldn't have gotten much farther if she *had* made it to the semi-semis (Vegas). Jim Norton made me laugh my butt off, but his really, really crude humor wears after a while.

My two favorites from the beginning, alas, are no longer in the game (Corey Holcomb made it pretty far, but Jim Wiggins only made it to Vegas on that last minute substitution).

Of the final six from last week, my favorites were the final three: Alonzo, Jeff and Gary. They're all different. They all make me chuckle. Alonzo is flat out my favorite (but why does him smiling scare me?). Gary is just so hot that it hurts, plus has material that everyone can relate to. But John, John gets better and better the more he wants it. You can *tell* that he sees the end in sight and is hoping to win. Plus, the fact that I've always had a soft spot for Bobcat Goldthwaite (and Jeff is obviously his younger, saner brother) makes me fond of John.

So, my prediction is John. Comedy is subjective, because different people laugh at different things. But John frenetic energy and ability to be on top of what's going on with the audience lead me to believe that he'll get the vote.
Just an FYI to the friends' list:

I am a weird sports nut. On the whole, I have one sport that I really love: NASCAR. I have one sporting *team* that I really love: the Carolina Panthers. I have two sporting events I love: the Triple Crown (I call the combination of all three races an event) and the Super Bowl.

The Olympics trump all of those, though. Well, except NASCAR. And unless the Panthers were in the Super Bowl again. And you know, if there were a horse with a story in the Triple Crown races.

Anyway, the opening ceremonies are Friday night, and I expect to be glued to the TV the entire time. I will most likely be all asquee for the next few weeks over gymnastics and swimming and track and field (and any of the stories that develop in any field of competition). I can't help it. I'm a sucker for a sports story (hey, it's the sole reason I sat through the World Series the year the D-backs won...it was all about Randy Johnson - go giant rednecks!).

And Livejournal will probably have to deal with me squeeing, too. For I will squee long and loud every day over the amazing feat from the day before.

I blame Mary Lou Retton. I blame Eddie the Eagle. I blame those that do the amazing and those that come nowhere close, but try their hardest.

Revisionist History

Go. Read. Give the love to [livejournal.com profile] plum_evil, because she loves revising Smallville (and Chloe) as much as I do. *G*
I'm feeling weird. Ignore at will. *G*

I want this shirt.

To be worn with this hat. Which I already have.

Add in this, because *something* should be closest to the skin.

Plus this, because one always wear tennis shoes to a race...and you need socks!

And since one must wear pants, these, would go nicely with the shirt.

And lastly, for warmth in case there's a nip in the air...this should suffice.

Alas, Wee Kasey, your product line sucks, so nothing for you to represent with, not even a beer cozy.

I'm honestly trying not to roll on the floor right now.

I was unaware that IMDB had message boards. But they do. And while I was looking to see if there had been any information added to the status of the second X-Files movie, I noticed at the bottom one of the messages.

Pardon me while I try to stifle my giggles. ([livejournal.com profile] ultimatemother, you're going to love this)

Someone was proposing that Mulder be played by Eric Bana.

*falls over laughing*

While I like Bana just fine, in what reality does anyone recast Mulder and Scully (at this point in time)? Several years down the road, if they want to keep them relatively the same age, I could see a "retelling" or "remake" being done of the X-Files. But this soon after the series, and with Gillian Anderson...why on *earth* would anyone recast Mulder?

I know some people had issues with Duchovny, but dang, it would make *sure* that a lot of people wouldn't watch the movie.

I was recently thinking about superheros and how precisely we (the fans) demand they adhere to an ideal. This includes secondary characters. The physical, the characterization...there's a certain look and attitude that fans expect. Some superheros, villains, or the normal folk in their lives, are far more versatile.

Take, for instance, Lois Lane. She's a brunette. Not a blonde, not a redhead. A brunette.

Wonder Woman is tall, curvy, and has that black hair.

Superman is tall (down to an exact science of 6'4"...almost), black hair, square jaw.

Lex Luthor...bald (and when he's not...he looks weird, poor John Shea).

Batman is far more versatile, lucky dog.

I got to thinking, months ago and after seeing someone's icon (and if you read this and recognize that it's your icon, let me know, because [livejournal.com profile] ebonbird wants to see it) of Gina Torres as Wonder Woman, about how certain images are burned in our minds, but how it can be easy to get new ideals.

Personally? I'd *love* if Gina Torres played Wonder Woman. Seriously, out of all the actresses in Hollywood, this woman has the superhero vibe down to a T. She's beautiful and strong and knows how to play the potentially silly for all it's seriousness.

But that got me thinking. Because if someone were to cast Matt Damon in the role of Superman, I'd be madder than hell. But cast Taye Diggs, and I'd be jumping up and down (and auditioning to be his mattress, because dayum, but anyway). I think the ideals are more restrictive based on hiring someone without the physical characteristics, but who is the same race as the character. Is that just me?
