The Squish!

NASCAR

My thoughts on yesterday's race:

1. YAY THE SQUISH! Go Vickers!

2. I am an unapologetic Junior fan (meaning I don't apologize for loving the boy, flaws and all). I want to beat the Dega fans silly. On one hand, I'd like to go as a Junior fan for the fun of all the times he takes the lead and the fans go nuts. On the other, for god's sake, any time he's close to contending for the win and doesn't, those fans act like butts. There are lots of sane Junior fans out there. We should form a club and refuse to act like the ones that throw things, scream "BULLSHIT" en masse and threaten to harm another driver. I can understand being pissed and not liking Vickers or Johnson, but throwing and screaming and threats? Juvenile and stupid.

3. Jimmie and Chad need to get over themselves, and now. Jimmie's on my shit list (and Chad would be doing good to get only spit in the face for the vitriol he spewed - jeez Louise, he's worse than Jeff Gordon when it comes to bad mouthing Vickers). Sticker will NOT be going on my car anytime in the near future. Racing accidents happen. That same situation happened in a Busch race many races back, except the perpetrator was Junior and the punted one was Carl Edwards. Carl overreacted as well (and who knows, Jimmie may get over it and apologize to Vickers for being an ass when Vickers was contrite). It's a regretable way to win, but it's still a win.

4. Vickers said "Hell yeah!" Hee.

5. I want to cuddle McMurray.

6. Gilliland got the pole! Woohoo!

Wow, well said! Every other Junior fan I came across last night via lj was screaming for poor Vickers to get sent packing post haste (and those were the nicer suggestions--many were calling for far worse). And the example you brought up involving Junior and Carl--I almost wrote about that in the post I made as well. Funny how those fans can forget so quickly when the shoe's on the other foot.

Lol, you seem to reason like me. I guess I just feel like I can be happy with a win and happy with the circumstances, unhappy with a win and unhappy with the circumstances, or any combination thereof. Typically I think what determines whether I'm happy with the win itself is based mostly on emotion, and what determines whether I'm happy with the circumstances is reason. It seems a lot of people don't let reason come into play at all over these things, though--as was obviously the case yesterday.

I know we haven't... spoken since I acted like a jerk, much the way Junior fans are being, but I just want to let you know that I completely agree. I've been the way those Junior fans are acting right now, and you're right, fans are guilty of letting their driver get away with one thing and then completely trashing a driver for another. I'm guilty of it too, and after this whole thing has gone down, I'll be a little less likely to judge someone for one thing and let Tony get away with it the next week, that's for sure.

I probably should have saved this for an email, instead of doing it in [livejournal.com profile] maveness's comments, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm sorry for the way I acted all those months ago. I've been meaning to apologize for... awhile actually, and I've always just been afraid to send the email, and this seems like the circumstances where all the bullshit I pulled is really being pulled into a sharp focus, so I just wanted to offer you an apology and tell you that I'm really sorry for the way I treated you.

I imagine my brother in law (for however long he's my brother in law) was yelling the same thing. I get when someone roots for one driver. I'm an anomoly with the whole rooting for 13 thing. Rooting for one means the entire race hinges on whether they have a good or bad day, or if it's exciting racing. But it makes me think of Earnhardt fans who got mad if someone took him out, when Earnhardt was the king of taking folks out. The logic doesn't make sense. Don't dish it unless you can take it.

Heck, as a Junior fan, I don't get HOW they can't be happy with a decent finish vs. a win. LOL Junior has won 17 races in his career, which is a good many compared to some others, but he's not consistent. If he consistently gets good finishes, that's a good thing. I take more satisfaction in Junior running consistently than in several wins in a season (with several DNFs). And if Junior dishes something out, he expects to get it in return - hence the fact he didn't whine post-race like Jimmie did about the wreck. Junior did the same thing. Heck, Jimmy Spencer pointed it out in Victory Lane! If the Golden Boy has done it (wait, that's Gordon - who did it to Kenseth), then it's good enough for anyone.
