Yuletide reveals!

First up, I'm going to mention what was written for me. Cause it just dawned on me that I haven't done that yet.

Christmas Traditions by [ profile] coonassblondie: A Southern Vampire Mysteries story (books, not TV) with Sookie, Eric, Pam, Amelia, Jason. *dances*

The Hunting Trip by [ profile] deifire: NASCAR RPF featuring Elliott Sadler, Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. ([ profile] bubblesbrnaid can testify that my exact email to her when I got this Yuletide Madness story was "Story rec! In case you didn't write it for me." Because this SCREAMED that someone I knew wrote it. *g*)

And lastly, what I wrote.

From the Mixed Up, Secretive, Completely Classified Files of Henrietta Lange: NCIS: LA origins story about Hetty.

To my Yuletide author:

For whatever reason the site isn't letting me add a comment, so I'll post my thanks here. Thank you!!! I enjoyed it immensely! *g*

Um, I kind of just realized that I was in full panic mode and making myself write and working hard...for the 9:00 deadline that is TOMORROW NIGHT.

On the plus side, I just posted my story and it's done!

Even more important, after deleting what I'd already written, I wrote something else I like much, much more.

My Yuletide story is not cooperating. Maybe it's because I have absolute freedom and the source doesn't have too much of a definitive tone, so there are fewer parameters. Or the fact that the route I decided to take is almost period for me. (Period drama kind of thing that is.)

Either way, I'm 200 words in and staring at the screen, trying to figure out what to do. Because it involves plot as means of displaying characterization, and I'm fuzzy on my plot (or I'm fuzzy because of the Riesling - it's cold, there was a thought process on having it).

The funny thing is, I feel like if I can get going on this and figure out my plot, it's going to be a writing breakthrough for me. It's different from my norm and definitely a game changer, as I do have free reign and it's almost like writing original fic.

Plus I realize that finishing this, then writing something for a job interview are my two writing assignments for the week, and both are going to either validate my writing abilities or set me back a few years. (I recently got a nice boost that restored my faith on the professional side. 10 years at work of no feedback led to negative views on my own writing. One bit of honest feedback and I feel much better. I need to work from that point and just not question. But if I screw up either of these writing assignments, I'll be backsliding on the confidence again.)

Jeez Louise.

Not only do I have to finish Yuletide in the next three days (and kind of START Yuletide in the next three days), but by next Wed. at the latest I need to have prepared a writing sample and an Excel sample.

On the plus side, my positive interview from Monday turned into an in person second interview for the week after Christmas.

Now to crawl into bed since the lovely snow outside (that I can't see from my hidey hole in the basement) is causing my back to be a mass of hives.

(Also, my grandmother yelled at me. So I can't go to the wildlife center tomorrow. *snicker* Actually, I had just come to the same conclusion as her, that the weather was going worse than anticipated. And curvy mountain roads do not make for great driving. She just didn't let me say that before yelling.)

Of all the fandoms I chose to write for (I actually offered four different ones, for once), the one that I felt would be easiest? I got.

In fact, the person who I got did TWO requests for that fandom, one of which was an awesome character, the other of which was "any". I essentially have free reign!!!!

Someone please explain to me why I just signed up for Yuletide. *whimper*

Dear Yuletide Author:

I can be totally all over the place, but there's one thing that tends to rule - I like funny. Funny is awesome. I even think my list of requests has major emphasis on the funny. So have fun with it and don't take anything too seriously. Seriously. If you want to make one of them a vampire (well, you know, except for the ones who are already vampires), I'm down with that. No holds barred.

Okay, so I totally requested something involving shenanigans and Elliott Sadler, Jamie McMurray, Tony Stewart, and Kevin Harvick. Have fun. LOL You are free to do anything. (Although bonus points if you can work in Elliott, Tony and Kevin trying to teach Jamie outdoorsy things in preparation for having Bass Pro Shops as a sponsor. Assuming they stay on with Chip n Dale Racing.)

NCIS: Los Angeles

My favorite part of the show is the part where G loves to needle Sam by "flirting" with him. Take that whichever direction you want to (because they are SO totally an old married couple).

Charlaine Harris - The Southern Vampire Series

This is the one request that isn't necessarily based in "be funny!" (but which could be accomplished - hey, anything's possible, especially if you include Pam). I admit to being someone who loves the books and isn't that fond of the TV series. So I love the Eric/Sookie relationship in the book (despite where the last book seemed to be heading).

Quite honestly, you can go anywhere on this one, I just want Castle, Beckett and Alexis. I would love it if you could work in Alexis getting to observe on a case (class assignment, maybe?), but any combination of the three of them interacting works for me.

For the record, last year I read very little of Yuletide. In fact, when I scroll through, I'm very, very picky on what fandoms I'll read. Heck, I'm not familiar with 99.99% of what's up there.

I just sat down and decided to finish going through and looking. I'd bookmark every story I intend to read (or at least every one that I intend to try to read) so that I can just click on a bookmark and stop having to go back to the search page.

People, in just a handful of fandoms, I have 30-40 stories to read. My brain cannot handle this! I do not have the attention span! LOL

I think that's what I'll be reading heading up to midnight tomorrow night.

I have eaten too much food and am possibly going to fall asleep any moment. I'm trying to go through Yuletide stories, but I'm not sure I have the patience to figure out what fandoms I want to read. LOL

Momentous Moments From Today:

1. Eating so much the buttons on my shirt actually burst open at random intervals. (Laughing hysterically at one point caused three to go at once.)

2. Playing "Smart Ass" with family and discovering that in the case of this game, I'm one of the least smart people in the family. (It's a game that involves clues, and I need one more clue than most everyone else.)

3. Getting one over on my grandmother (my cousin was in from Florida with her fiance, and my grandmother didn't know until cousin walked in).

Tomorrow's list of things to do:

1. Go shopping for the things I didn't get for Christmas. *g* (Because my grandparents gave me $100 and the things I didn't get are a CD, The Dark Knight, Supernatural Season 3 and a cheap warm coat. Totally doable under $100.)

2. Family dinner at five.

3. Possibly harass Bubbles. (Ha, didn't see that one coming, didja woman!)

4. Possibly lay in bed half the day and read a book.

Look Ma: Yuletide!

Look what I got for Christmas!

Lucky Triple Sevens, which is NASCAR RFP - Jamie/Ellyut, and Christmas Dreams Come True which is a brief snippet o' Ugly Betty Daniel/Betty (yeah, I asked for it because I'm EVIL).

Want to know how to get the shakes?

Detach your computer from the internet so you're not tempted to surf instead of writing Yuletide. Then, with an hour left until closing of Yuletide, hook back up to the internet to upload.

And your computer freezes.

Every time you boot it up (and then force it to shut down when it freezes).

And then call [ profile] bubblesbrnaid and ask her to email the mods so they'll understand that you really didn't default. And THEN find out the deadline has been pushed back an hour and fight with the computer some more and FINALLY get it to work long enough to upload the story.

Let it be known, right now? It's decided to work perfectly. I don't get what just happened. I do not want to spend my work "bonus" on getting my computer worked on!

Weekend Improvement

1. Dad found my high school diploma at the last minute. In a box in his office. Not in the attic.

2. I have my birth certificate with correctly spelled name. Apparently at one they had my middle name spelled wrong. Ha!

3. For Christmas my mom got a job. Guess who gets to carpool?

4. For Christmas I got: PediPaws (oh the fun! once I get batteries), The 6th Horseman, a Dale Jr. wireless mouse, a Dale Jr. 88 ornament, a food chopper (okay, I asked for a food processor, but my sister got confused *g*).

5. Still haven't started Yuletide. *eg* I'm going to be writing on the last day, aren't I?

Now I need to get together all the things to make copies of tomorrow so I can turn in the application packet on Tuesday. I'll be working half a day tomorrow in anticipation of a late day doctor's appointment and running a work errand before that. AND I need to get groceries and laundry money tomorrow night because I have no work pants.

Five Four Things

1. Bobby Labonte has been granted release from Petty Enterprises. (Basically, his decision. At least that's the impression I've gotten so far. He's a free agent.)

2. Yuletide is kicking my ass. It's not even at the stage where I'm having trouble writing. I'm actually having trouble coming up with anything to write. My source is awesome, but I'm having trouble with ideas. Thing is, I'm going to have to start writing this weekend. (It's also not helped by general life stress and the fact that any time I sit down to watch the last episode - planning writing time afterwards - something happens that cuts into my writing time. Before I even get anything watched.)

3. Chester has for some reason, after a year and a half, discovered that the couch is awesome. This goes beyond his normal couch love (if I'm on the couch and someone else is in my apartment and sitting on the couch, as soon as they go to the bathroom or the kitchen, he must steal their spot). He'll actively go sit on the couch, even with his normal spots open. He especially prefers to curl up on the left end. It's cute, except when he wants to curl up there after coming in from the rain.

4. Gov. Blogo (I can say it but not spell it) is amusing me greatly. Mainly because I'm not from Illinois and don't have to live through that horror. The way I see it, if a politician is going to be corrupt, that's the way to be corrupt. Be really corrupt so there's no wiggle room and they can nail your ass. Trying to sell a senate seat? Hey! Makes it easy on prosecutors!

Dear Yuletide Person:

Let me start by saying that I'm sorry for being evil. I can't help it. Yuletide is about wishes coming true, so pretty much, unless you got my Chuck request, I've screwed you big time with lots of weird.

Request number one: Okay, so maybe Elliott Sadler/Jamie McMurray isn't too hard. And I'll totally take anything featuring them (as long as either one isn't being slashed with someone else). I can totally take unrequited love, friendship, manly men (well, okay, Ellyut is manly) being all men-like together. I totally would love some slashy goodness. Any way it goes, feature them and life is good. (Engagement angst could be fun as well.)

Request number two: If you got this one, you're probably thanking your lucky stars. After all, John Casey being awesome (as opposed to Awesome) is easy to write. Since he is awesome. Have fun with it, go where your heart desires. Seriously, I just love Casey in any scenario. Just don't kill him. *g*

Request number three: I actually considering Daniel/Betty to be hard, so go with the flow on what you feel you must write. I'd love some romance (I consider it a hard pairing because it would take many years or crazy circumstances for them to see each other as anything but friends - but I'd love to see someone try). Even fic of them seeing each other in a different light is interesting. Have fun with it and don't worry - I'm easy on that front.

Request number four: I'm sorry. There are no words to express how sorry I am for you right now. This will be the hardest thing you've ever undertaken. Please accept my condolences and understand that whatever you feel like doing, I can take.

I'll be doing my Dear Yuletide Writer letter on Tuesday. Just so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

*flails and tears hair out*

Less than an hour. I need to have this thing done in less than an hour AND uploaded. 580 words, people! Consider the fact that last night I had 479 and KNEW that I had tons more to write. Somehow, in 101 words, I changed it entirely and I'm not sure I'm going to have enough to 1,000.

*flails some more*

Okay, ignore me. And the fact that I actually volunteered to pinch hit at one point (didn't get it, thank god - what was I thinking?). This one story is just trying to be a pain.

ETA: Two minutes to spare and it's done and uploaded. WOOHOO!

Dear Yuletide Santa:

This is the first time for me, so please, be gentle. *G*

Okay, to get serious, I want to tell you in advance that you're awesome and it's great that you're doing this. I know that the odds are that you only matched me on one of the fandoms. I apologize for traumatizing you (if you'll be writing Batman or Coffee Prince fic) with the NASCAR RPF. Yep. It exists.

Coffee Prince: I'm an easy girl. Anything of any sort with Choi Han Kyul and Go Eun Chan makes me a happy, happy person. I love all of the characters, so have fun as you wish, but those two in particular...they're it for me.

Batman the Animated Series: I know I requested Bruce/Barbara/Dick (well, not threesomely, but those three characters), and I take the chance of getting Bruce/Dick fic, but I'd like to just mention that Batgirl/Barbara Gordon is my favorite character. For real. So even if you feel like writing Bruce/Dick slash, if you could just insert a little Barbara, it would make me happy.

NASCAR RPF: My guess is that if you're writing me NASCAR RPF, I probably know you. *g* So this is probably an easier task than most. That said, if I don't know're screwed. LOL Okay, not really. But I did request Stremme/Montoya (because I haven't figured out how to write them yet, but they're practically canon with the mutual guy love), which may prove challenging. Just look for pictures like the one in my icon or interviews where Montoya rhapsodizes about Stremme's awesomeness. And the other request was more about making things easy, because any combination of Vickers/Mears/Sadler/McMurray leads to fun and hilarity.

I have now officially signed up for Yuletide. Pardon the freaking out, but the idea of writing in fandoms that I've only considered before? Eeek!

(Now back to my regularly scheduled glaring at customers. It's a long, boring night, only punctuated by perusing the Yuletide sign up form for 2 hours and having a five minute conversation with the Harvick fan.)
